With its latest console, Nintendo hopes to redefine gaming, differentiating itself from the pack. Consumers, women and men, and all ages enjoyed games in a highly engaging experience. The industry initially dismissed it as a gimmick believing that gamers would be attracted to a better visual experience. But the competition was wrong. Consumers by the millions made the Wii the best selling console for numerous years. With the Wii, Nintendo defined the industry on their own terms and came out on top. After years of dismissing the Wii, Sony and Microsoft produced superior technologies. Now Nintendo is hoping that lightning will strike twice. The Wii U by many measures is not bleeding edge, or cutting edge for that matter, but the earlier release date may give them a nice head start on the competition.
